Lot of 4 lightly USED vintage General Electric (GE) “String-A-Long” brand, miniature style, 100-bulb, assorted color Christmas light sets. Each set comes in the original used paperboard box, wound neatly around the original white plastic rack. I doubt that any of these were ever actually used, but I am unable to prove or demonstrate that they weren’t. The bulbs are incandescent in green, blue, orange, and red – with dark green wiring and sockets. Can be made to flash on and off with the proper configuration of flasher bulbs; otherwise, they shine solid. Sockets on each end of each set allow you to string multiple sets together. It is recommended that you string no more than 3 sets at a time together; this is advertised to be enough to cover an 8-foot Christmas tree. Each set is 100 bulbs, fused, 46 feet long, with about 5-1/2” between bulbs. Other specs and info are available in the pictures.
FULL DISCLOSURE – Packaging indicates a few spare bulbs in each set. I do not see these parts included. So please factor this into your decision.
These light sets were manufactured in China for General Electric (GE). There is no readily-apparent model number, although there is a UPC code on each box: 0-43168-99170-4. I am unsure of the specific date of manufacture or sale, but the price tags on the box from a local store seem to suggest that these are maybe from the mid-1990s to the early-2000s.
These come from a move we are doing for my Mom outside of Pittsburgh. None of the kids have any use for them, so we are looking to find them a new home.
The bulb sets themselves are in excellent, lightly-used condition both cosmetically and functionally. Again I have my doubts that any of these were removed from the white plastic racks, but I can’t prove otherwise. All bulbs light up as they should with no dead bulbs. No cracking, cuts, or fraying in the wiring. Nothing broken. All electrical connections are in clean shape. Everything is still fairly neatly attached to the white plastic racks, which are also in good shape, with no cracks, bends, or breaks.
Again, no spare bulbs or fuses included that I can see. Flashing is also inconsistent. One set flashes once warmed up, another set flashes partially once warmed up, the two other sets don’t seem to flash at all. So you may need to work with bulbs to get everything to your liking.
The outer boxes are in reasonable shape for their age, but there is a fair bit of wrinkling, and wear and tear. They are thin, but do still serve to hold the light sets and plastic racks.
Original price on these was about $40 total, and you can also purchase a similar number of mini-bulb sets (though shorter in length) for about $40-45 today.
